Originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, Gerardo Labarca is a Canadian artist based in Montreal whose journey is defined by reinvention, discipline, and a lifelong passion for art.
After arriving in Montreal at the age of 21, Labarca built a successful career in the fine dining industry, managing several renowned establishments. At 47, he chose to devote himself fully to the visual arts, returning to a passion that had been part of his life since childhood.
A self-taught artist, Labarca has developed a distinctive visual language shaped by his exploration of light, movement, color, and emotion. His creative process combines instinct with technical precision, producing powerful compositions with a strong visual and emotional presence.
Through his portraits and contemporary works, Labarca seeks not simply to reproduce appearance, but to reveal character, presence, and moments of emotional truth. His work is now part of private collections in Canada, the United States, France, Poland, and Dubai.
His growing international presence has included exhibitions at Red Dot Miami and Art Santa Fe, as well as galleries in Quebec, Georgia, and Miami. His work has also been presented on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, alongside internationally recognized artists and works by masters such as Salvador Dalí.
Beyond his own practice, Labarca is committed to supporting the artistic community. He founded ONE FOR ALL – ART, a platform dedicated to exchange, collaboration, and contemporary creation, and has organized non-profit group exhibitions to promote emerging artists.
From his studio surrounded by nature, Gerardo Labarca continues to explore new techniques and ideas, creating work driven by sensitivity, discipline, and a constant desire to evolve.
His journey reflects a deeply held belief: it is never too late to choose your passion and give it the place it deserves.
